MISSED CLASSES: I am very blessed to have a full piano studio, and rarely have a
break between students. I do not have time to make-up missed lessons. Therefore,
there is no reduction in tuition for missed lessons. Activities such as: family vacations,
field trips, spring breaks, doctor and dentist appointments, and sports events do not
qualify for a reduction in piano tuition. The tuition you pay reserves your time.
SUMMER LESSONS:
Most students continue taking lessons during the summer session to ensure they will
keep their same piano day and time for the fall. They are given priority in the fall
schedule, if they wish to change their lesson day or time, depending on my availability.
The tuition you pay, reserves your time, whether you attend or not. If you plan on going
on vacation for an extended time, please let me know as soon as possible. (Refer to the
paragraph above regarding discontinuing summer lessons). If you do not pay for the
summer months, I will not hold your piano lesson time for the fall.
Students are always encouraged to continue lessons in the summer months. It is my
experience that when students take a break from piano, their skills, practicing habits, and
hand muscle memory decreases. When students return in the fall, I have to review old
materials and re-establish good piano skills and technique.
DISCONTINUING LESSONS: September through May
Parent or adult student must inform the studio in person with a *30 day written notice
should you desire to discontinue classes. Phone calls, text messages, and e-mails will
not be accepted as a form of withdrawal. A One month payment is expected whether the
student attends their last month or not. You may receive a cancellation form from my
business manager.
DISCONTINUING SUMMER LESSONS: June, July, & August
*Same as above, except a *60 day written notice is required. A two month payment is
expected whether the student attends their last two months or not. If you do not pay for
the summer months, and you wish to return in the fall, you will be put on a waiting list
until a time is available.
General Rules:
1. Please DO NOT bring: food, drinks, or gum into the studio.
2. Proper attire and grooming is expected! Make sure student's hands are clean. Nails
should be trimmed and clean, no flip-flops or open toe shoes, etc.
Questions? Ask me.
3. Parental attendance is permitted but not encouraged, unless the student is 8 years old
or younger. Some children behave better if the parent stays in the waiting room. If a
parent does attend the piano lesson, please refrain from talking or correcting the student
in the lesson, so the student can build a trusting, positive, and respectful relationship
with the teacher.
NO CELL PHONE CALLS WHILE SITTING AT THE LESSON!
4. Siblings are welcome in the waiting room only. And, only if they are old enough to
entertain themselves quietly.
5. Daily practice is REQUIRED!!!! The following are minimum times to practice:
Beginning: - Parents are expected to supervise and help all students, 8 years old and
younger. For very young students, 2 sessions of 15 minutes should suffice. For older
students, 30 minutes is the minimum. However, the student should practice as much as
he/she needs. Each individual is different, but no practice session should end in less
than 30 minutes.
Intermediate: - Students should practice a minimum of 1 hour per day.
Advanced: - Students should practice 2 hours minimum per day.
6. Politeness and respect is expected from both parents and students.
I reserve the right to terminate a student immediately and without a refund for just
cause. Inappropriate behavior by student and/or parent, etc.
PARENT'S REQUIREMENTS:
1. Provide a good functional and tuned instrument. I am a proponent of full size
acoustic pianos, however, nowadays good electronic instruments that are full size (all 88
keys), have all pedals (at least two, sustain and soft pedals), and are capable of
dynamics (the ability to control the volume of the sound through the touch of the
performer), in addition to having weighted keys (in order to simulate the action of an
acoustic instrument) are available at a reasonable price.
2. Set a regular practice schedule that is realistic and CONSISTENT. EVERYDAY
practice is required! Consistency is the key to creating the habit of practicing every
day. For very young children (4 to 6 years old) 1/2 hour practice is required. For older
students (7 and older) a minimum of 1 hour is required. The parent is expected to listen
to the student practice at least 3 times a week and make sure the student is following the
instructions given by the instructor.
3. Practice time at home without the distractions of TV, Radio and/or relatives walking,
playing or talking around the practicing room is indispensable.
4. Materials and books must be purchased immediately. All materials MUST be
brought to the lesson.
5. Parents are expected to bring students on time and pick them up on time. My
responsibility with the student starts when he/she enters the lesson room and ends the
second the student leaves the room.
6. Any questions and/or inquiries regarding lessons are to be handled at the student's
lesson time or by appointment.
7. Parents are expected to take students to recitals and master classes when they are
offered. Parents and family participation is expected and encouraged, if the student is to
excel.
